Hardened Self-Hosted Automation: Docker, Dockge & n8n at Scale

Deploying self-healing webhook triage pipelines and asynchronous background worker queues through zero-trust Cloudflare tunnels.

Why Self-Hosted Automation Beats Third-Party SaaS

Enterprise automation platforms like Zapier and Make become bottlenecked when handling sensitive API credentials, high-frequency webhooks, or multi-step LLM reasoning jobs.

Self-hosting n8n on a dedicated, hardened Linux box provides total sovereignty, infinite executions without per-task billing, and instant integration with local Docker services.

Infrastructure Stack Overview

The deployment is managed through Dockge with declarative Docker Compose configurations:

  • Host OS: Hardened Ubuntu LTS with automated unattended security patches.
  • Orchestration: Docker Compose + Dockge management interface.
  • Database: Dedicated PostgreSQL container with WAL archiving and daily automated R2 backups.
  • Ingress: cloudflared tunnel eliminating any open public ingress ports on the router or firewall.
  • Queue: Redis instance handling asynchronous task buffering.

The Automated Publishing Flow (n8n Pipeline)

This stack is architected to handle content workflows autonomously:

  1. Trigger: Webhook received from webhook sources or schedule cron.
  2. AI Reasoning: Multi-model pipeline drafts, validates technical facts, and structures frontmatter.
  3. Commit & Push: Authenticated SSH Git commit directly pushing .md articles into src/content/blog/.
  4. Instant Rebuild: Cloudflare Pages or local Astro build rebuilds static artifacts in <3.5s.

Resilience & Disaster Recovery

Every container runs with restart: unless-stopped and is health-checked via an uptime monitoring agent. If memory pressure spikes or a webhook fails, automated alerting triggers via Telegram and WhatsApp webhooks.
